Wood Flow 2020

A review of the quantity of wood packaging placed on the market (POM) and recycled in 2014. The study also projects future POM figures and recycling rates to 2020.

Key points:

• New estimate of UK POM for 2014 is 1,310k tonnes, an increase of 276k tonnes from the previous estimate
• Using the new POM figure of 1,310k tonnes suggests the UK achieved a 31% recycling rate in 2014, lower than the previous estimate of 40%
• The estimate was found to be just over 100k tonnes higher than data reported by obligated companies under the Packaging Waste Regulations, suggesting that non-obligated POM accounts for 8% of wood packaging in the UK
